About Me
June 23, 2006
What Nationality are you? Is the question I get asked most often. Well, When my mother was pregnant with me, the doctors told her that I was going to be a boy. So, I was going to be a “Josh”, the decision was made, it was final. What need had my Mum and Dad for a Girl’s name? Of course, I wasn’t a Josh. Crisis! Think Fast Mum & Dad! So, while we were still in the hospital, Mum was passing the time reading ”Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man” by James Joyce. Luck. There was a fleeting character in it called Mercedes….and I was named!
I am not Spanish. There are a host of applicable backgrounds to my Nationality, and I value them all. My maternal Grandmother was Jamaican, Grandfather Lithuanian. My Mother American. My Father’s side is English & Irish and my Step Dad’s side is Scottish. (It counts too) So the answer to the question of my Nationality is that I am first generation Canadian.
